The Fool Explained

Spontaneous - Air - Uranus - Yes - All

Simple: New Beginnings, spontaneity, taking chances, opportunity,  trusting instinct instead of logic, innocence.

I think of this card as the Alice in Wonderland Card. When Alice gets to  the fork on the road:

Alice asked the Cheshire Cat, who was sitting in a tree, “What road do I  take?”

The cat asked, “Where do you want to go?”

“I don’t know,” Alice answered.

“Then,” said the cat, “it really doesn’t matter, does it?

The fool doesn’t know where they are going, so it doesn’t matter which  path is taken. The fool simply trusts that their instincts will lead  them to the correct place.

In reverse, to quote Elvis, “only fools rush in”  So if the fool card represents you today, trust your gut.

Who is the fool?

The fool is the start of the journey, and in this case the journey  through the tarot The fool is a traveler, kind of like a hitchhiker, who  waits, hoping someone will stop, and pick them up. Whoever happens to  stop, will be just the right person, for the fool relies on fate. The  fool will venture off into the unknown regardless of what others think.

In traditional tarot decks the fool carries a bag on a wand that has  been picked up off the side of the road. The fool uses it like as stick  because they doesn’t know it’s a wand. The bag is small, the fool knows  exactly what they need to have with them. They don’t care for material  possessions. A dog follows, as the dog is a trusted companion. The fool  is funny and charming, they easily makes friends but then moves on just as quickly for the fool has journey to follow.

Some decks display the fool as the joker, while many consider the joker  as simply someone who provides comic relief, the purpose of the joker can be viewed in two ways:

- one who provides an escape for the mind to stop focusing on just what you see; the things we can see are what lead to believing we can do more

-one who acts as a comedian, who tells truths under the guise of a joke, to lighten the harshness of the truth

The fool is open to all possibilities that life has to offer, and  therefore often ends up in the right place at the right time. The fool  is always completely balanced, they are fine right where they are, they  are happiest meeting new people and gaining new experiences. The fool  moves forward without thinking, they trust their instincts to get to  where they need to be.

Reversed: Be cautious of foolish decisions. You are afraid to follow  your gut, talk with a trusted companion to help you.

In a Reading: Trust your instincts. A new opportunity may be present that you should take a risk on. You don’t need much to be happy, sometimes you will find  what you are looking for when you stop trying so hard. Trust that you  will end up where you are meant to be, it’s ok if you don’t know quite  where you are going right now.
